Some days I feel like I've been working at this dream of mine forever. Well, at least for years. In reality, it's only been months. I was accepted in to my first market in February of 2016. That means I've been pushing this side hustle of mine for about 8 months.
I had a day today -- a day I'm sure a lot of us makers and creators have -- where I just compared myself to others. "Why do they have 3,000 Instagram followers and I only have 610?" "How do they make enough money to live a sustaining life just doing their art?" "Omg, look at that wonderful sign she made -- dang I wish I would have thought of that."
It took some time and some hard work mentally, but I was able to step back and think about how far I've come since applying for that show in the beginning of the year. I now have over a handful of shows under my belt. Night shows, weekend long shows, mini-markets. Plus, I'm hosting two brush lettering workshops in October. I've increased my social following, updated my website, got my finances in (better) order, and met so many wonderful, creative people. All things that I sometime take for granted. Things that are easily overlooked when I'm comparing myself to people who have been doing this for 5+ years.
So, as a reflection back to my start oh so long ago, here are some photos from my very first I Made It! Market. Remember, in this creative world we live in, patience is one of the greatest assets you can have. Work hard, stay humble, and it will all happen when it's supposed to.
